WHY TIME MANAGEMENT?

In a modern age where you’re probably already swamped with so much to do, you may legitimately ask yourself if you have the time to learn about time management! We have bills to pay, families to look after, emails to read, meetings to attend, proposals to hand in, clients to take out, job searching to do, courses to go on, hobbies to enjoy, targets to meet, places to visit, friends to keep in touch with and dreams to aspire to.

If you could read that bewildering list (which reflects just a fraction of modern day tasks) with a relaxed smile - knowing that you’re in control of all your current, incomplete, short term and long term tasks/projects – then you don’t need to know about time management. But if you’re like the vast majority of people, you could vastly improve on your efficiency and effectiveness in getting your stuff done.

Time is life. Every day, hour and minute that passes by is another part of your life gone. We don’t even know how long we have. If we’re smart, we will make every moment count. In the context of employment, we have an array of short-term tasks: replying to emails, submitting information, making calls and completing daily jobs. The long-term projects are even trickier: updating our CV, undertaking professional development and managing increasing responsibility. At the same time we want to keep a work/life balance.

In the next FREE e-Bulletin we’ll look at why to-do lists, diaries and time-based systems DON'T WORK and then describe the success criteria of a truly effective time management system.
